Screenwriting Tips... You Hack
Script Notes Now Available

Way back in the mists of time, I used to run a script notes service called Hack Notes. It’s been out of commission for a while, but it’s now fully armed and operational once more. Behold:

Hacknotes.net

For those who don’t remember Hack Notes, here’s the deal:

1) You send me your script.

2) I read it twice and write 3-4 pages of detailed notes on how to improve it, and what to concentrate on for your next draft.

3) You go into your next rewrite with a battle plan and proceed to kick ass.

It’s not quite like studio coverage. I don’t write a synopsis (because you already know what happens in your script, right?), and I don’t pick apart the script’s flaws one by one. Instead, I imagine the perfect version of the script you want to write, and I suggest ways for you to get there.

Here’s a quote from a former customer:

“I’ve purchased notes 2-3 times before (on other scripts) and never received anything as detailed, insightful, and helpful. I wasn’t sure where to go with this script, but you’ve given me a lot of unique character, structure, and story suggestions that should propel me through my second draft. I’ll definitely use your service again!” - Sarah Shaw

Some of you may recall that my rates used to be lower. Why have they gone up? For the same reason I shut down Hack Notes for a year: I found I was spending way too much time on it — often up to 4-5 hours per client. Rather than try to rush the notes to make them worthwhile, I wanted to keep putting that same amount of time and care into each one. I’m now charging what I think they’re worth. And you’ll find the new price is still cheaper than most of the big script notes services available on this internet.

Got questions? Need a special job or a discount for multiple scripts? Email me at hacknotes@hacknotes.net and we can talk about it. I look forward to reading your script!

Disclaimer: I want to make it clear that Hack Notes is in no way affiliated with the Black List. It’s just me.
